After Diner Drink...

Despite the many times that I have crossed my fingers that Spring will come early this year, the air is still filled with bitter cold. Cozied up in bed with a warm drink seems to be thee only way to spend these (hopefully) last Winter nights. I've been experimenting with different combinations of liquors, teas, and coffees recently and my favorite combo is what I call a "Coffee Nut Nightcap." A smooth mix of fresh brewed coffee, Frangelico, Disaronno, milk, and sweet sugar, this hot cocktail is sure to please during these especially cold nights!

Magic Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh coffee
- 2 shots Frangelico (or other hazelnut liquor)
- 2 shots Disaronno (or other almond liquor)
- Milk (to taste)
- Vanilla syrup (to taste)
- Candy garnishes of choice (optional)
(Serves 2)

Getting Started:
1: Mix all liquid ingredients together in a pitcher
2: Serve in mugs, garnish with candy, enjoy!

I like to pick up some of my favorite edible garnishes at Marini's Candy Shop, a local sweet boutique. The orange and brown candy canes are actually flavored like root beer!

Yours,
Nico

Decor Idea: Romantic Floral "Headboard"

One of my New Year's resolutions is to make my bedroom more inviting and cozy. When I first mentioned the idea of doing the room in mainly shades of white my boyfriend quickly asked "like an insane asylum?" Admittedly as I was beginning the process the room did look a little crazy ( imagine stark white bedding & white walls). But I quickly thought of a couple simple and inexpensive tricks to give the decor a more inviting feel. The first idea I implemented was to create a mock headboard since purchasing a brand new one can be so expensive. I picked up some white string lights, tissue paper, and faux flowers on sale after the holidays and spent some time creating this peaceful venue for sleep. Here's a couple tips for crafting your own floral arch:

Supplies:
- 1 strand string lights
- 1 bouquet faux flowers
- Lots of tissue paper (I purchased two packs of 100 sheets from Target)
- Tacks
- Scissors
- Scotch Tape

Getting Started:
1: I started creating the light arch by tacking the middle of the strand of lights to the wall above the middle of my mattress. From there, I continued to arc the lights using tacks to secure things in place. I found that working from side to side helped make things more even.

2: Using the tissue paper, scissors, and scotch tape I created flowers of various sizes by following this tutorial (I used tape instead of floral wire).
3: I then tacked the blossoms of the hand made flowers as well as the faux flowers to my wall within the light arch.

I hope to eventually add even more flowers into this concept, but making them by hand does take time and that is okay! Decorating your home should be a pleasure not a hassle. More importantly, you don't have to break the bank to create an environment that you love living in!

Denim In Davenport:

Someone once asked me what my favorite color to wear was and I responded with "white, denim, and leather." I am aware that denim and leather aren't exactly colors but they are my favorite thing to wear anyhow. So when my neighbor wanted to take a trip to Davenport, those three "colors" were the first things my hands reached for in my closet. Of course wearing just one piece of denim wasn't enough for me so I also threw on a denim vest for good measure. A few years ago I would have cringed at the idea of denim on denim, but these days I can't get enough (like with this outfit). Denim is classic, durable, and perfect for a sandy day at Davenport beach!

My small but growing collection of Native American turquoise & silver jewelry. The scorpion ring was a recent holiday present that I just love because my astrological sign is scorpio.

The day these photos were taken was one that I will remember for many years to come. The sun was shining in the middle of Winter and for just a few moments it felt like sweet Summer graced us with her lovely presence. I love making memories at the beach, what are some of your favorites?

A Day In Davenport:

I feel so lucky to live in California, more specifically, I am thrilled to reside here in Santa Cruz. Just a short drive from just about any lust worthy and beautiful destination and right by the ocean. Recently, my neighbor Fallon called me up in the morning and suggested an impromptu excursion to Davenport. I had never been to the quaint beach town and I jumped at the opportunity to see a bit more of the California coast. We hoped in the car with some snacks and were on our way! Davenport is just a speedy 20 minutes from Santa Cruz and filled with quaint coffee shops and antique stores. We made the most of our day trip by enjoying tea and muffins in the sunshine and galavanting like little kids on the beach! But I really wish we could have taken the time to build a fort like these kiddies:

I love this resin napkin holder filled with coffee beans! I wish I could make one filled with pressed flowers.

A delicious savory corn muffin from a local coffee shop.

A sneak peek at some of the accessories I'm wearing in an upcoming post.

My neighbor Fallon wearing a gorgeous knit infinity scarf.

Loving her vintage leather bag and printed pants as well!

While in Davenport I also took a few pictures of the outfit I wore and I'll share that with you guys really soon so don't hesitate to check back!

Yours,
Nico

Vampire's Kiss:

Confession, I wore this outfit to two different events in the last week! First to see a sultry jazzy trio called Tortured Soul at The Boom Boom Room in San Francisco (what a fantastic venue!) and then on repeat for celebrating the New Year. I jokingly refer to this dress as "a designer trash bag," but I really love it regardless. My New Year's Eve plans were very mellow but surrounded by close friends and family is the only way I would have things! What were you up to?
